Let's Debate :- 5 Reasons I Don't Do Cloth Diapers

Hello...today Mommy nak ajak kawan2 to debate in this topic..Mommy come across this while browsing through looking for answers for CDing...I've copied and paste here what this Lady has to say about CDing her children...

July 25, 2007 by
Julie Fletcher

Why Using Cloth Diapers Just Didn't Work in a Large Family Or anything else cloth, for that matter.

1. Too much work with multiple children:

I have 3 kids who are all in varying stages of pottytraining. Trying to keep up before the entire house smells from the diapers is very hard. When they all go at once, it can drive a parent insane. I didn't only try this for a day or a week, this was for several months. I just didn't have
the time nor inclination to use even more laundry soap for an extra load of soiled diapers each day.

2. Leaks:

I have several different types of cloth diapers. From All In Ones

3. Laundry:

By using cloth diapers I had much more laundry than usual. I normally don't wash clothing every time it is worn unless it is actually dirty. With the leaks, I had to wash: diapers, sheets, clothing, MY clothing more, Dad's more, and blankets. Not a good way to save money. My cost of doing laundry ran up the electric bill, gas bill, and water bill, along with the cost of laundry soaps and softners.

4. Rashes:

A lot of cloth diaper proponents say their children didn't have a rash at all with cloth diapers. I experienced the total opposite. My son's 'wee' turned red, along with his bum. The urine just wasn't being absorbed from his skin fast enough. I'm always changing a diaper, my kids don't sit in a big, lumpy, pee filled mess. For cloth diapers, I used vinegar as a rinse to remove all soap residue and did not use dryer sheets or softeners with the diapers.

5. Inconvienent:

With the leaks and having to add bags to carry home the wet, stinky diapers, using cloth on outings was just totally inconvienent. I ended up buying disposables to carry along with me, anyway.

For someone with the time and dedication, I don't condemn you for going back to the basics with diapers. But I know I won't be using cloth diapers or any other cloth item for bodily functions again unless I have to.

Child Development :- Motor Skills

apekah motor skillS??? skill naik motor mcm mat rempit ke?? or naik motor terbang mcm superman??hehehe No NO no to merempit yah kawan2...

today Mommy nak cerita pasal motor skills...secara ringkasnye la motor skills is more towards learning how to move our body...ada few motor skills tapi Mommy nak tegaskan pada FINE motor skills and GROSS motor skills...coz these 2 skills are very important during early stage of chilhood develpment...

GROSS motor skills - are the abilities required in order to control the large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet of the body...contohnye walking, running, sitting, crawling etc etc etc

FINE motor skills - are the abilities required in order to control the small muscles of the fingers, toes, wrists, lips, and tongue...for example writting, drawing, buttoning etc etc etc

kenapa perlu enhance these skills sejak dari baby lagi???the answer is very simple...to help them to help themselves by completing daily activities independently...paham idak??hehe kita tolong dia supaya dia hidup berdikari boleh buat apa sahaja dgn sendirinya...

kalau nak elaborate in detail panjang lebar nanti post Mommy nih hehehe....tujuan Mommy post nih ialah nak cerita pada kawan2...today baby Ema do some hand and feet painting...and painting ni is one of the activities that can enhance both skills mentioned earlier...

ni barang2 yg Mommy guna tuk aktiviti hari ni...reminder to all please use a non toxic paint ekk...

tadaaaaa...my first art piece!!!...mahal ni mengalahkan leornado da vinci nye masterpiece...hehehe

As U can see from the artwork...baby Ema is at the 1st stage of art developmental stage...its called Random Scribbling...this is the scribble stages and begins at about the age of one and lasts to approximately two and a half years (according to research Mommy read on the internet)...the feature of this stage is definite lines that are made with simple pencil, paint or texta movements..the drawing instrument (paintbrush or pencils) is usually grasped tightly (not much wrist movement) and the lines are not yet controlled....so nampak la mcm cakar ayam....tu line2 colour hijau biru tu la...

Saturday

stripwash UR cloth diapers

Here Mommy nak citer pasal stripwashing...apekah??hehe

Strip washing is the washing process whereby U remove any soap or other residue from the CD....every once in awhile U all akan encounters persistent odor, repelling fleece, or leaking diapers....kalau U all mengalami all those so its time for U to run the special cleaning...yey yey....but HOW?
  1. Place all of your affected CDs into your Bucket (or sink kalau takde baldi)
  2. Fill the Bucket with Hot Water
  3. Add to that Water a Squeeze of your regular Household Dish-washing Detergent....Yep the stuff you use on your dirty Dishes (remember that we are trying to dissolve an Oil Build up in your Fabrics so a degreasing detergent is exactly what we need here)!
  4. Leave the CDs in the Soapy Water overnight (please please please put it up high atau bertutup... way too many babies die every day in a bucket of water!)
  5. Esoknye drain the bucket and pop the CDs into your Washing Machine WITHOUT any washing powder or soap at all...and jalankan washing machine on a Pre-Rinse if you are worried you over did the Soap!
  6. Sidai kan seperti biasa...
  7. Selesai utk digunakan semula...go back to enjoying those fantastic Absorbing machines we call Cloth Diaper
OR...if U all tak gemar rendam merendam ni U can try this method...
  1. Start with your CDs in a clean state or wash them as you normally would
  2. Run your CDs and inserts through a hot water, heavy duty cycle without any detergent.
  3. Run a cold rinse....If you have hard water, add Baking Soda (per the instructions on the box for laundry) to soften your water, which helps release residual detergent.
  4. If you still see bubbles in your rinse water, run another cold rinse using the baking soda. Repeat until you see no more soap bubbles....
  5. For stains or odors, sun dry your CDs....SUN=amazing stain buster!!! remember??!!
Stripwash ni dilakukan to troubleshoot ur CDs...mungkin U all tetiba ada masalah regarding the absorbency of the CDs....time ni la yg kena stripwash...or mungkin U all terletak fabric softener or bleach...so cepat2 wat stripwash...sbb as mentioned previous post...fabric softener or yg seangkatan dgnnye can have a very negative affect on the CDs and in short term these products will cause UR CDs to start leaking...kekadang even if U all wash your CDs perfectly every 6 months or so U might find that all of a sudden the CDs that were once like absorbing monster are now leaking before every change...this is a simple case of washing powder (or Liquid) build up that has coated the waterproofing of UR CDs....

there U have it...take good care of UR CDs as they take good care of UR baby bum...hehe...same2 lah kita berkongsi cerita...

Cloth diapering at NIGHT

This week Mommy nak citer pasal Nighttime CDing and it should be a pretty easy one! There are a few factors to keep in mind when selecting a Night CD berbanding dgn the usual Day time stuff yg mungkin not absorbent enough to last the whole night...

Absorbency - Ni paling penting in this topic...When U want to put a CD on your little one to last overnight you need to make sure it is going to be absorbent enough to do the job...biasanya U will try to get something to last U 12 hours (if UR lucky enough UR baby tido that long hehe)...Bamboo ialah salah satu yg Mommy cadangkan coz its quite simple in that 1 Layer is usually 1 hour of absorbency (obviously that would vary depending on the size and thickness of the Bamboo)...so utk 6 hours you need 6 layers....Some brands Mommy rasa ada yg ada lebih absorbency nye tapi lagi nipis so U all kena la find out survey2...hehe..pastu U all need to then Boost it by another 6 Layers...This is where the Bamboo Fold Ups come in (if you are a little tight for cash U could use the Boosters from another type for this job cthnye fleece etc etc etc)....This is a great rule of thumb with any CD that UR buying to use overnight. Find out how many layers of Bamboo it has and go from there....

Waterproof Layer - kalau UR baby is a serious wetter overnight U might also need to cover the Couture to last the whole extra hours...Wool is fantastic for this....Wool actually absorbs the moisture into its fibers and then evaporates them into the air! Neat huh! bila U nak cari a Wool Product for a Cover make sure is it is a minimum of 8ply 100% Pure Wool....so that UR baby will feel comfortable and breathable...

tapi kalau U all takde ape2 yg dinyatakan diatas...dont worry...back to our main purpose on using CD...so jgn susah2 hati...U can always use 2pcs 3-layers microfiber fleece...It can last for 5-6hours depending on UR better wetness...kalau tak cukup tambah je ngan fleece liner...so UR baby bum will be dry...ni Mommy suggest je...there are many ways out there...so pls do UR homework...hehe..let UR baby be proud of their mommy...

So there you have it! A nice and easy one :) I wish you all the success in using cloth overnight as there is nothing better than waking up to a Dry bum and happy baby smile :)

Monday

1st time diapering + travelling

first of all Mommy nak ucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri...maaf zahir dan batin...

Raya nih we travelled byk tempat n lama jauh dari rumah...pastu bekalan CD pun tak byk...so terpaksa rotate...so tiap kali singgah bermalam rumah org tua di kg sampai2 je terus wat washing...pastu gantung dalam umah mcm ala2 umah setinggan indon pun ada gak bergantung CD sana sini...hehe...bukannye ape sidai dalam umah sbb dua tiga hari time tu cuaca hujan mendung je...confirm time mandi Mommy bertambah la minitnye hehe sampai kena tegur..."aik lamanya awak mandi...cuci toilet ke"...hahah takde keje Mommy nak cuci toilet....we r in raya mood la takkan nak cuci toilet keh keh keh...RAYA = MAKAN....ni baru betul!!!

from my experience past one week nih...basuh CD ngan tangan confirm lambat kering n ada skit bau-bauan yg tertinggal...sbb ape...coz takleh wat double spin n also takleh sidai bawah matahari...bila sidai direct sunlight...matahari tu akan hapuskan bau2 yg tak menyenangkan tu selain hilangkan bad stain yg melekat yg takleh hilang walaupun dah basuh...so important nye tuk sidai CD dgn pancaran sinar matahari utk jamin CD tu bersih dan takde bau selain membunuh bacteria...

pastu lak bila CD lambat kering n stock dah abis kelam kabut la keringkan...buka kipas kuat2 la...perah CD dgn tangan sampai naik melecet la palm nih hehehe...ye la kan...nak seribu daya takmo seribu dalih...so kena la berusaha...

so bila travel jauh n lama...bawak la hanger n penyepit supaya senang nak sidai CD2 tu...pastu bawak sabun basuh n dettol botol kecik...pastu kena bawak wet bag/ plactic bag yg byk tuk simpan CD yg tak sempat kering and CD busuk kotor....ye la kan time raya nih byk la berjalan gi umah sedara mara n takkan la gi umah diaorg kita dok sibuk mencuci kot...so simpan la dalam wetbag yg busuk2 tu...mmg satu pengalaman la bawak CD busuk kehulu kehilir...satu bag penuh ngan CD je...

oh ya lagi satu dari pemerhatian Mommy sendiri...insert Shinies amatlah cepat kering berbanding Coolababy...insert shinies ni quite tebal gak mcm Coolababy compare ngan babyland n QQbaby yg amat nipis dan tak best tu...tapi Shinies mmg cepat kering...baguskan..tak kiralah Mommy wat double spin or perah tgn mcm biasa je Shinies mmg confirm cepat kering...why??Mommy also dont know why...U try n see la whether its true or not...

Friday

SUN = amazing stain-buster!!!

Here Mommy nak tunjuk U all bukti...SUN = amazing stain-buster!!!

Before:- can U see the yellow stain on the CD??

After:- few hours after meeting Mr. SUN...where's the yellow stain go?? hehe...

Wednesday

How to use Pocket Cloth Diaper?

Mommy will show you how to use a Pocket Cloth diaper...its as easy as 1-2-3...even your baby can do it...hehe kalau dia dah besar la hehe

Above is one (1) pocket diaper and one (1) insert, lay out and ready to stuff.

This is how it looks like before inserting the insert. Look out for the opening yah! different brands different styles.

Slide the absorbent insert into the pocket opening found on the back, upper portion of the pocket diaper.

Pulling with your hand, move the absorbent insert down into the body of the pocket diaper until it reaches the front end. The insert should be long enough to go from one edge of the pocket diaper to the other edge without any additional length hanging out; this ensures maximum absorption without any leakage. Make sure the insert are put flat!

Tadaaaa! Ur done and ready to put the CD on your baby...Simple kan??

Comel kan baby Ema with her pink CD...hehe...How to put the CD on your baby is the same like using disposable diapers...lay out the CD flat...place baby on top of the CD and secure the snaps...yeahooo done...pls make sure U adjust the snap buttons/velcro to ensure a good fit (not too tight or too loose) and comfortability of the baby is very important!

Friday

Happy Merdeka Day!!!

Happy 52nd Merdeka Day!!!

Rasa mcm dah lama Mommy tak update blog nih...a bit bz lately...mcm2 hal...tunggu stock CDs la...sibuk ngan delivering those CDs la...baby Ema tak sihat la...mcm2 la...tapi kesian kat baby Ema...dia cirit almost a week tak baik2 lagi...3kali gi klinik...walaupun shes not well but she doesn't look like a sick baby...masih ceria mcm biasa cuma bila badan dia ada temperature dia akan letih n baring monyok je la...other than that dia mcm biasa je walaupun perut tak sedap...haa tgk gambar atas tu...tu tgh tak sedap badan tu tapi sibuk ngan merdeka flag dia...bila org lain sebut merdeka je dia cepat2 cari flag and wave it...pandai kan anak Mommy nih...hehe...

Mommy nak amik kesempatan kat sini to wish everyone Happy Merdeka Day!!! May Malaysia be in peace and harmony sampai ke anak cucu cicit piut etc etc etc

Thursday

Cloth Diapering accessories

Mommy will list down some of the accessories that U need and can be use during diapering..

1) Diaper Pail - any types of pail yg bertutup..for safety reason and also not to let the smelly odor out
2) Diaper Pail Liner - durable waterproof type of bag with elasticized opening that easily hold a wash load of diapers
3) Nappy Liner - disposable liner/flushable liners....its best to use flushable liners for environment sake...nappy liners are easy to use as U don't need to rinse poopy diapers in the toilet!...it absorb the solid waste - then simply discard the soiled liner in the toilet and flush away the mess...
4) Diaper Stacker - is use to keep all clean diapers organized and easy to find...
5) Wetbag & Changing Pad - this is use while travelling...wetbag to put ur soiled diapers...
6) Cloth Wipes - seeloknya use a washable wipes to clean your baby bum...kalau travel tu lain lah kan
7) Ordor Remover / Deodorizer - to be used in ur diaper pail or wetbag....keep all the smelly smelly yucky odor awaknyyyyyy...dalam bilik pun boleh letak

some of the accessories listed mungkin penting dan berguna dan mungkin tidak...its up to U to plan it...cemana U nak guna etc etc etc...tapi yg penting fikir dahulu samada U really need it or not..Mommy letak sini sebagai panduan je...jgn membazir kalau tak guna jgn beli...make use of what U have around the house...recycle la bende2 tu...kita kan nak promote saving the earth project...hehe

How to wash your cloth diapers?

This is the famous question yg Mommy terima bila Mommy cerita pasal CD kat kawan2....diaorg sume cakap "alaa leceh la nak kena basuh2...pakai DD kan senang..terus buang je"...hmm ni Mommy nak cite cemana nak basuh CD nih...senang je...kalau malas nak basuh hari2...U can wash it every 3days or bebila U nak basuh byusing the correct method UR CDs takkan rosak or deformation...tapi jgn la simpan the soiled dirty nappies..bucukkkk arrrr

Pre-wash
:- All new CDs must be wash before using them, ideally multiple times...it removes any chemical residue on them and makes them more absorbent...kalau malas pakai washing machine je...kalau rajin hand wash with HOT water...this is to increase the absorbency of the CDs...

Dry-pail method (recommended for PUL waterproof materials):-

  1. Throw all your dirty diapers in the diaper pail (covered pail) until laundry day...before putting a soiled diaper in a diaper pail any solids should be knocked off into the toilet or by rinsing it under the water tap untuk mengurangkan keharuman bau diapers tu...a more convenient way to use a dry pail is to line it with a wetbag or diaper liner...so senang nak transfer the diapers...

2. Open the washing machine and dump the dirty diapers into it...and let the machine do its wonders...sementara nih gi la blogging ke ape ke...biarkan kehebatan mesin basuh U all wat keje2 busuk itu...hehe..jgn lupa letak cloth diaper friendly detergent tau...

3. Remove diapers from washing machine....Inspect for stains, and hang any stained diapers kearah matahari sementara ianya masih basah...sometimes the diapers may have badly dirty stain even though it has been washed...don't use chlorine bleach to tackle that big stain....Instead, Mommy gunakan the power of the sun...SUN = amazing stain-buster!!!...hebatkan???jgn lupa...the stained part of the diapers must facing the sun ekk...

REMINDER :- Do Not use fabric softener, chlorine, and detergent with enzymes kerana bende2 ni boleh mengurangkan absorbency of the diapers...and avoid washing too many diapers in one load a.k.a lebih dari 2dozen diapers for better cleaning results...

Additional :- U can also add baking soda (soda bikarbonat) or vinegar for effective stain removal and untuk menghilangkan bau bacin bucuk diapers tu...

haa...senangkan??actually there are many methods in cleaning and drying your diapers...but Mommy chose this method sbb Mommy guna PUL pocket diapers and this method is hyper easy to be done....kua kua kua...(sesuai tuk org malas mcm Mommy nih)...daripada abiskan masa basuh CD guna tgn might as well use the time for some other useful things kan kan kan...

Sunday

Yeahooo jumpa botol BPA-free comel dan murah....

Semlm Mommy gi Pureen warehouse sale kat PJ...I bought BPA-free Pureen GOLD bottle...5oz RM10 je...murah la tu kan compared to other brandname...tapi harga kat luar Mommy tak tau coz Mommy bought it during the warehouse sale...

this is how the bottle looks like....Anti - colic air valve on the base allows air flow to facilitate circulation, ensure an even flow for easy feeding and reduce colic...Mommy bought 2 of those and 1 the normal one...murah mmg murah tapi janji ianya BPA-free...bila beli murah so takde la reluctant sgt nak buang after 6months usage...hehe...kira mcm wear and tear la ni...kalau beli mahal2 sure macam sayang2 nak buang...

this is the link to Pureen's website...click here

Wednesday

Jalan-jalan cari botol...

Mommy dah beberapa hari kuar jalan2 cari botol baby Ema...tapi takde yg menarik...maksud Mommy menarik ialah yg comel2 and BPA-free and MURAH...skang baby Ema pakai NUK and avent yg tak BPA-free...Apekebendenya BPA-free nih??hhehehe...

BPA stand for Bisphenol-A...it is a chemical used in polycarbonate plastics and is used extensively in consumer products ranging from baby bottles to coffee makers. It can also be found in products such as laptop computers, CDs, car parts, water filters, and as linings in food and drink cans...most of Malaysian plastics manufacturer use this chemical to possess a unique balance of toughness, optical clarity, high heat resistance and excellent electrical resistance...senang cite BPA ni TOXIC....and its not good for our health...mungkin the side effects tak nampak skang but its alraedy in our blood sbb toxic ni mmg dah ada dalam bende2 yg kita guna hari2...effectnye mungkin takde or mungkin kita akan kena in the future...so we cant turn back the time but all we can do now is to prevent dari melarat...

one way is to change your baby bottles...and keep your child safe by reducing the exposure of this chemicals towards your baby...how??
  • Avoid hard polycarbonate plastic, which contains BPA....Instead, use bottles made of glass, or softer, safer plastics made of polyethylene, polypropylene, or polyamide. Brands that carry these include Avent, Medela, MAM, Tommee Tippee, evenFlo, Born Free and Pureen (ni paling murah yg Mommy jumpa kat pasaran).
  • Discard worn bottles (those that are cloudy or scratched): Chemicals leach into food more easily when plastics break down.
  • Do not fill bottles with boiling water
  • Don't leave plastic baby bottles in hot cars or direct sunlight
Still degil or melambat2 kan proses menukar botol baby U all??atas sebab2 botol2 ni mahal la...malas nak cari la...leceh la...takde masa nak cari etc etc etc...tu sume ALASAN je....kalau degil lagi meh Mommy cite kesan2 sampingan guna botol2 yg TAK bpa-free...supaya U all ada kesedaran n takut hehehehe...(kejamnye Mommy ni) hehehe...ni Mommy paste dari website http://www.babyworld.co.uk

What are the dangers for children?

Bisphenol A is one of the most extensively tested materials in use today and has been researched and studied for over 40 years. However, it is only in the last 10-15 years that concerns have been raised over its safety, particularly during pregnancy and for young babies.

Frederick vom Saal, a biology professor at the University of Missouri at Columbia, stumbled onto BPA in 1997 while studying foetal development, and has spent the last 10 years researching the effects during pregnancy and on young children.

Prof Saal says, "The foetus and infant are exquisitely sensitive to bisphenol A. One hit during a brief window of time can influence future development."
  • Future fertility - Prof Saal found that BPA passes through the placenta from mother to baby, mimicking the behaviour of the natural hormone oestrogen. Even low levels of exposure while the baby is developing can cause lasting changes in reproductive and metabolic development.
  • Behavioural problems - Several studies have found that Bisphenol A at extremely low levels causes changes in brain structure and behavior in rats which scientists argue show the same reaction in humans.
  • Cancer - some studies have found that early exposure to BPA during infancy increases the risk of breast and prostate cancer in later life.
tu la serba sedikit pasal BPA-free nih...haa dah ade kesedaran lom??lets do the best for our baby and also save the Earth...oh lagi satu, lets go shopping!!!...

Monday

Breastfeeding for Working Mothers....

Mommy is a full time housewife tapi ni Mommy nak share skit pasal working mothers also can breastfeed their babies....jgn jadikan bekerja tu satu alasan utk tidak meneruskan breastfeeding...sbb nowadays technology sgt canggih...makin hari zaman makin canggih...many types of equipment has been invented to help mothers continue breastfeed their babies while at work...ok now Mommy will roughly tell u what u need to have and to do to breastfeed babies at work...

1) Mindset - ni pada Mommy sgt penting...mindset kena betul...kalau U dah set your mind not to continue feeding your baby then mmg susu tu takkan kuar la...coz your mind is very powerful...it controls most or may be all of your body parts...so set your mind "I want to breastfeed my baby until he/she is atleast 2years old"...

2) Office = breastfeed friendly - haa ni penting gak nih...sebelum ape2...korang survey la dulu office tu ade tak disediakan 'pumping room'...coz certain office do provide a room for mothers to do their pumping session..tapi ade gak employer yg tak celik minda pasal bende nih and the mothers has to go to the toilet or surau tuk pump...of let say office tak sediakan..y not try to request...sbb bukannye u sorg je yg akan pakai...for sure ade mothers lain yg keje kat situ akan guna pakai bilik tu..."happy employee = money in for the company"...hehe

3) Hand Expressed - ni dalam bahasa org melayu "memerah susu menggunakan tangan"...hehe...dont worry if you dont have a breastpump...u still can use your hand to expressed your milk...kena dgn cara dan teknik yg betul...wooo susu boleh dapat lagi byk dari menggunakan pump...kena try and error...coz not all ways and techniques suitable for everybody...so byk2kan la membaca dan menimba ilmu demi anakanda yg tersayang...btw...ni pun boleh jadi salah satu teknik to increase your breastmilk...

4) Nursing Equipment - prepare all the nursing equipments needed for breastfeeding before you start work or its best before U deliver your baby...Breastpump, milk storage and bottles...ni 3 bende penting if you want to continue breastfeed bila dah start keje...

5) Nursing wear - haa ni penting tuk keselesaan U all...prepare nursing Bra or Nursing blouse..even nursing baju kurung pun ade jual dah skang nih...try la carik...cuba elakkan pakai bra or baju yg ketat2 sbb susah nak breastfeed/pumping session...pakai baju2 nursing pun masih boleh bergaya sbb skang ni dah byk style ada dijual dipasaran...

6) Knowledge about breastfeeding - ni tak dinafikan lagi the most imprtant thing U MUST do...buat research byk2 pasal susu ibu nih..skang ni technology canggih..information is at your fingertips...U must know How to expressed your milk? How to use the breastpump? How to store your breastmilk? How to prepare your breastmilk? How much milk does your baby need? When to start pumping session? How often should you pump? How long should you pump?Tips and tricks for better pumping? How to increase output without increasing your pumping time? How to stimulate your breast?...etc etc etc....

ni website Mommy jumpa while browsing...Milk Calculator ...

tak susah kalau U set your mind nak breastfeed baby nak breastfeed baby...sure sume nye jadi senang....Mommy ada kawan yg penah cakap ngan Mommy "I mmg tak nak breastfeed my baby..susah la nak keje nanti"...kesiankan kat baby tu...sedih Mommy dgr mak dia cakap mcm tu..mane perginya hak Anak tu???...many of my working friends have done it and berjaya menyusukan anak sampai 2 tahun...lebih 2 tahun pun ada...and WHY NOT YOU???!!!

Friday

Cloth Diapers - cost saving's BEST FRIEND

Hari ni Mommy nak citer lak pasal cloth diaper = ECONOMICAL...nape Mommy cakap mcm tu...here's WHY...

Disposable Diapers - Mommy choose one of the famous brand in market yg baby Ema penah pakai

One day = 8pcs
jumbo Pack (s1ze M66) = RM35 (ni kalau time promo sale la ni)
1pc = RM0.53
1 day usage = 8pcs x RM0.53 = RM4.24
30 days usage = RM127.20
365 days usage = RM1547.60

Cloth Diapers - ni Mommy guna brand yg baby Ema tgh pakai ni haa...One size pocket diaper

One day = 8pcs
1pc = RM39
1 day usage = RM312
30 days usage = RM312 x 2sets (for washing rotation) = RM624
365 days usage = RM624

let say Mommy add anak sorg next year....

For disposable diapers - Anak pertama = RM1547.60
Anak ke-2 = RM1547.60
Total = RM3095.20 setahun

For Cloth Diapers - Anak pertama = RM624
Anak Ke-2 = RM312 (may be nak tambah lagi satu set la kot)
Total = RM936 setahun

Tu kiraan for the usage of diapers to baby...what about the environment??? A baby will used approx. 9000pcs of DD for 3years....A disposable diapers is used for 3hours but a Cloth Diaper is used for 3years...Think about all the resources being used to produce a DD that will last for only 3hours and then be thrown away....and THINK about where all of the thrown away diapers are going to end up??? haaa....manakah perginya semua sampah2 itu???

So U do the math la how much U can save!!! dari segi $$$ and of course the Environment as well...Ni kiraan secara teorinya sahaja...if u want to know the facts...u have to try it yourself la ekkk...cuba dulu baru tahu...hehehe

Wednesday

Why Cloth Diapers?Why? Why? Why?

Hari ni Mommy nak citer pasal Why I chose to start cloth diapering baby Ema...

1) Cloth-Diapered Babies Have Less Diaper Rash - why? because cloth diapers have NO Chemicals...Try this --- cut a disposable diaper in half. Pour water on half and watch what happens. There are tiny chemical crystals that turn into a spongy gel when water hits them. This is called Sodium polyacrylate, which absorbs up to 100 times its weight in water. Dioxin, which in various forms has been shown to cause cancer, birth defects, liver damage, and skin diseases, genetic damage, is a by-product of the paper-bleaching process used in manufacturing disposable diapers, and trace quantities may exist in the diapers themselves. Dioxin is listed by the EPA as the most toxic of cancer related chemicals.

2) CD is Environmental Friendly - less trash for Earth to eat...."Go Green"...

3) Early Potty Training - This has mostly to do with the fact that when a cloth diaper is wet, they can feel the wetness sensation...

4) CD is Cost Saving's best friend - this part Mommy will elaborate in the next post...it involves calculations...

5) CD are Easy to Put On and Better Cushioning for Baby's Little Bum

6) CD are More Comfortable for Our Babies - why? because cloth is softer than paper - that's the end of the story. Otherwise wouldn't we all be wearing paper underwear?

8) CD are Easy to Wash - Mommy tau...for a fact that moms new to cloth diapering shudder at the thought of cleaning soiled diapers...but no worries...with modern cloth diapers, cleaning is a breeze. Baby's poo is contained by the nappy liner which is either thrown or flushed away. Give the diaper and insert a rinse (Mommy add a squirt of hand-soap when rinsing them). You can either accumulate about a washing machine load of soiled diapers to be washed together or you can just dump the rinsed diaper with your normal laundry. Senang kan? but Mommy will elaborate more on this too later...

9) Stand Out from the Crowd! - Unique, Cute, Fashionable, and Fun....what else can U say??its all here with CLOTH DIAPER! yeahooooooooo.....besar nanti boleh jadi fashion designer mix and match here and there...

Tuesday

Why breastfeed? Why? Why? Why?

Breastfeeding is one of the most important things you can do to give your child the very best start in life. Breast milk provides the optimum nutrition for your baby. Human milk is custom-made for babies, with all the right nutrients and in the right amounts. Despite their efforts, formula companies simply CANNOT duplicate the amazing benefits of breast milk. It is recommended to practice breastfeeding for AT LEAST two years.

benefits for Babies...breastmilk
  • less likely to have tummy upsets, gas, diarrhea, and constipation
  • stronger immune systems
  • higher IQ
  • fewer allergies and less risk of asthma
  • fewer incidences of diabetes and cancer
  • less risk of childhood obesity
  • less risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
  • better dental and facial development, and decreased likelihood of dental caries
  • protects against infection because living substances in breastmilk prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and viruses in baby’s digestive system.
  • enhances attachment between mother and baby by providing lots of direct skin contact between mother and baby.
benefits for Mother's...breastfeeding
  • promotes bonding
  • promotes uterine contractions after childbirth and reduces bleeding
  • causes less postpartum bleeding and less chance of anemia.
  • uses up extra calories, allowing most mothers to lose weight gradually without dieting.
  • protects a mother from health problems such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, urinary tract infections, and osteoporosis
  • economical—breastfeeders save $$$$ in the first year
  • convenient—always available, and always the right temperature
  • saves time—no formula to prepare, and no bottles to wash
  • clean and safe—and available when normal supplies of food and water are interrupted
  • produces naturally-soothing hormones which increase calmness, self-esteem, and confidence.
For babies and mothers...
  • Skin-to-skin contact with a well baby is a wonderful way to recover from birth for a mother and baby, a way to start intimately connecting to a baby and a great boost to breastfeeding beginnings.
  • Oxytocin has been described as the ‘love hormone’ and it is secreted when falling in love with another adult, or a baby, and it makes mothers feel relaxed, contented and less anxious.
  • Mothers who breastfeed experience surges of oxytocin every time they breastfeed their babies. Skin-to-skin contact helps this hormone start and keep working.
  • Oxytocin also makes the cells that are wrapped around the milk making glands in breasts contract, which starts breastmilk flowing. A baby sucking at the breast triggers milk let downs during breastfeeds and at the same time a mother's uterus contracts to help it get back into shape faster.
benefits for the EARTH...

In this era of increased awareness "Go Green" about our impact on the planet, breastfeeding is a good green solution—there is no excess packaging, no factory processing, and no transportation necessary.

Types of cloth diapers

hari ni Mommy nak citer skit about the basic types of cloth diapers...

1) Prefold diapers - these are the traditional rectangular diapers made from cotton...alaa kain putih empat segi zaman dolu2 lagi dah pakai tu la...They are to be folded and fastened with safety pins...Waterproof covers mcm plastics are needed to contain urine and poop...these cloth diapers are economical, very absorbent and quick to dry...
2) Fitted diapers - diapers ni lebih kurang mcm prefold diapers...ada kain dan kena pakai waterproof cover to prevent wetness and mess from leaking out... these diapers are actually contoured to the shape of a diaper with elasticized waist and leg openings...and these diapers uses snaps or velcro as fasteners...add on a doubler on top (inside the diaper) for extra absorbancy for heavy wetters...
3) Pocket diapers - haa ni mcm yg baby Ema pakai dalam previous post Mommy...they are similar to normal disposable diapers with an hourglass shape and elastic in the legs and waist untuk mengelakkan kebocoran...Most pocket diapers consist of a waterproof outer layer and a stay-dry inner layer of microfleece or suedecloth...Bezanya ialah pocket diapers front or back edge is left open for stuffing with an absorbent yg dipanggil inserts...sbb tu ianya di panggil 'pocket'...The insert comes out of the diaper for thorough cleaning and quick drying, and can be replaced if needed tanpa perlu menukar seluruh diaper...
4) All-in-one (AIO) - from the name pun kita dah tau...maknanya semua dalam satu...diapers ni lebih kurang mcm disposable diapers bentuk nye whereby they have a one piece design...bezanya ialah u dont throw AIO away hehehe...AIO are the simplest cloth diapers to use without any extra accessories and uses snaps or velcros as fasteners...

5) All-in-two (AI2) - AI2 cloth diapers are similar to AIO except that the insert in an AI2 is separate from the diaper body...Biasanya AI2 insert akan snap pada diaper body, but it may be laid or sewn in also...One advantage to AI2 cloth diapers is that the body and insert separate for thorough cleaning and quick drying...lagi satu advantage is that the the insert can be replaced if it wears out before the diaper body...

ni la list but not all la...skit je coz there are many types of cloth diaper tapi yg ni yg popular dikalangan ibu2 moden nih..hehe...cukup memadai la tau ni je...hehehe...penerangan Mommy mungkin tak mendalam coz Mommy letak description yg basic je...kalau ade yg tak paham boleh la email/msg Mommy akan terangkan lagi...hopefully this will help U all tuk memilih diaper ape yg sesuai for your babies...

come on lets save the Worldddddddddddddddddddddd

My 1st set of cloth diaper - pocket diaper

tgk gambar atas ni...post kali ni nak citer pasal 1st set cloth diaper Mommy beli tuk baby Ema...cloth diaper or short for CD ni brand kasihsayangku jenis pocket diaper...Mommy beli dah lama dah...awal tahun hari tu tapi tak berpakai sbb tak paham2 cara penggunaannya...i knew about CD ni bila mula terjebak ngan susuibu.com...a forum dedicated to all mothers yg menyusukan anak dengan susu ibu...best gak forum ni...and the people there are so friendly...mesti kawan2 tertanya2 what is CD??...CD ni kalau direct translate lampin kain...but this CD is modern type of lampin kain...bukannye lampin putih yg dilipat2 mcm org dolu dolu tu hehe...

CD ni bentuknya lebih kurang mcm disposable diapers(DD) yang U all pakai kat baby U all skang ni...takyah lipat2 dah...zaapppp terus pakai kan kat baby je...cepat dan mudah...beza CD and DD ni ialah dari segi penjimatan yg amat ketara, pembersihan and also ade kaitan ngan baby's health...of course kalau ikutkan nak senang pakaikan je DD tu...zaapp pakai pastu buang takyah basuh2 mcm CD nih...but do all of U know that the DD contains chemical yang boleh menjejaskan kesihatan baby...mungkin skang kita tak nampak kesannya kan...bak kata omputeh preventing is better than cure hehe...kalau sayang anak then marilah kita sama2 mula pakai CD...di samping menyokong kempen Go Green 'save the Earth'...

haa ni baby Ema pakai CD 'I love Dad' dia...comel kan...CD ni ada sepasang...'I love Dad' and 'I love Mom'...skang ni Mommy dalam proses transition from DD to CD...stock CD tak cukup lagi so still kena selang selikan ngan DD...tapi ape2 pun Mommy mmg nak fully Cding baby Ema sbb nak berjimat and also because of the greatness of wearing CD...nanti Mommy citer lebih lanjut tentang kebaikan CD nih...

My journey starts.....

I started to breastfeed baby Ema on the first day she step her foot into this lovely world...hehe pertama kali baby Ema nampak dunia selain dunia dalam perut Mommy dia...actually pada awal pregnancy lagi dah bincang ngan hubby nak breastfeed baby and he 100% agreed with it...Why I chose to breastfeed baby Ema is because of the values and benefits gained from the breastmilk...Nothing is more natural than breastfeeding!!! Sejak dari awal bermulanya manusia bertapak di bumi ni lagi dah praktik menyusukan bayi dengan susu ibu...Women have been doing it in every corner of the world for thousands of years tapi kenapa tidak kita???...although it is natural tak bermakna ianya senang dilakukan..all it needs is practice!!!...practice makes perfect bak kata omputeh...hehe...

baby Ema is a very lucky baby...immediately after she was born, doctor dah letak dia sebelah Mommy to introduce her to the breast sebab babies have a period of alertness during the first hour after birth, and they display a strong sucking reflex that is not as strong again until approximately 40 hours later. Time ni la yg paling bagus tuk bonding between mother and baby...ni dah proven by reasearchers tau..the first 2 hours is the MAGICAL hours...hehe..so kawan2 jgn lepaskan peluang ni tau...its very precious once in a lifetime...kalau doctor tak bagi or wat tak tau je...then U kena request and insist ek coz this is your right as a mother...rugi tau...dalam buku ada kata...ape2 yg mothers buat ngan baby bersama time 2hours ni baby akan ingat sampai bila2 dan mungkin akan mengulangi perbuatan tu bila dia dah pandai dan paham nanti...
sorryla..gambar masa first time lacthing kat hospital ada tapi tak dapat letak sbb ade kat cousin didi..dia nak tolong watkan album...(she's a photographer..sape2 nak cari photog boleh la tanya Mommy..promote free lak ni)...Ni gambar baby Ema tgh nyusu...gambar ni diambil ketika Mommy 'berpantang' kat umah ayahanda dan bonda...baby Ema nyusu sampai tertido...and there is a reason why baby always fall asleep during feeding...nanti Mommy citer lebih mendalam on another thread ekk...kalau Mommy terlupa U all ingatkan Mommy la ye...hehe..
